Wenz Caps Career as WBCA All-America Selection

Kym Wenz Senior guard Kym Wenz put an exclamation point on her stellar career recently as she was selected as an honorable mention on the NCAA Div. III State Farm Coaches' All-America Team as determined by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Wenz's statistics and exceptional play put her among the nation's elite all season long, but this accolade validates her status, as she became the first women's basketball player at The College of Wooster to earn All-America recognition, and one of just 40 players in the nation to be selected this season.

The Scots had a competitive 2009-10 season behind Wenz, notching solid wins over top-seeded North Coast Athletic Conference rivals Wittenberg University and Denison University. Wenz scored over 30 points in both games, and also racked up a career-high 37 points in a win over Ursuline College, which was one point shy of tying the team's single-game record. She ranked 14th in the nation in scoring at 20.8 points, the second-highest season average in team history, and led the NCAC for the third-consecutive campaign.

Factoring into Wenz's dominance are several intangibles on the offensive end, including her 3-point shooting, where she broke the school record for 3-pointers made (72) in a season. She connected on her shots behind the arc at a remarkable 47.4 percent clip, the second highest in the nation, while also ranking second in the NCAC in free throw percentage at 80.7 percent.

Wenz chipped in more than gaudy scoring numbers during her senior season, as she finished fourth in the league in steals (2.6 spg), and 19th in rebounding (5.2 rpg) despite playing the guard position. Her 1.6 assists per game were also second on the team.

It's been a celebrated past couple of weeks for Wenz, who was most recently named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region First Team, and earlier became a first-team all-NCAC selection for the second-consecutive season. She also was a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, which requires excellence in both the classroom and on the court to be considered.
