Wenz Earns Third-Team Academic All-District Honors

<a href= Kym Wenz has been a standout on the basketball court for The College of Wooster while also excelling in the classroom, and for those combined efforts, she was selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

A preseason All-American (D3hoops.com), Wenz is living up to that billing as entering this week's action, she was NCAA Div. III's 13th-leading scorer with 20.7 points per game and eighth nationally in 3-point percentage, having hit 51-of-114 for a rate of .447. Wenz appears on track to finish as the North Coast Athletic Conference's top scorer for the third consecutive year, while also currently leading the league in 3-pointer percentage and ranking second in free throw percentage (.824), third in steals (56), and 10th in field-goal percentage (.398). The 5-7 guard also averages 5.3 rebounds.

Wenz, who is a Dean's List honoree majoring in communication studies with a minor in physical education, is approaching the 1,500-point plateau for her career, currently with 1,426 for a 16.8 scoring average – the highest in school history. Wenz will likely become just the 15th in NCAC history to reach that 1,500 milestone. The school record holder in 3-pointers made (150) and free throws made (334), Wenz also ranks first at Wooster in 3-point percentage (.407), second in free throw percentage (.807), and fifth in steals (190), all despite missing half of her sophomore season due to injury.

The Academic All-District Teams are determined by CoSIDA after a review of nominations of key players with a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA from the college division (NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA) in Wooster's five-state district (Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee).
