WOOSTER, Ohio – Following 30 minutes of closely contested action, The College of Wooster allowed SUNY Geneseo to close out the game on a 25-5 run, turning what was a 41-41 tie into a 66-46 setback Sunday, in the championship game of the Nan Nichols Classic at Timken Gymnasium.

The Scots (1-2) had everything working in the early goings, as Karley Walker knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to give Wooster a 6-0 lead. Taylor Keegan added a 3-ball of her own, and moments later Keshia Butler delivered a jumper that put the Scots on top by 10 (15-5) just 7:35 into the action.

Over the next 10 minutes, the Knights (3-0) cut into Wooster's lead, and eventually put together a 22-5 run that allowed them to build a 27-20 cushion. Butler connected on a bucket, and Kristen Schwartz and Keegan helped chip away at the deficit as well, pulling Wooster within two (29-27) at the break.

Both teams traded baskets coming out of halftime, but a Jessica Wingen hoop on a Butler assist made it 39-39, and Wooster appeared to be gaining momentum. Following a Brittany Finkle layup, Butler answered back with two of her 10 second half points, and the Scots were again tied (41-41), before the Knights went on their previously mentioned run.

The Scots' shooters went into a cold spell over the final 10 minutes, and SUNY Geneseo's Khadija Campbell was a terror on the glass, pulling down six of her game-high 16 rebounds during that stretch.

Campbell earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player honors, and added 12 points and three steals to her stat line on the day. Bri Dunton, who had seven steals over the weekend, was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player, and Melissa Graham was also an all-tournament team selection.

For Wooster, Walker and Butler received all-tournament accolades. Walker led the Scots to victory Saturday with a career-high 17 points, while Butler had the hot hand in this game, recording 14 points and five assists.

Earlier in the day, Trine University upended Thiel College 52-49 in the consolation game. Trine's Haley Killingbeck and Thiel's Chelsi Clark were also represented on the all-tournament team.

Wooster will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot at Marietta, Ohio. The Scots square off with Washington & Jefferson College (0-3) Saturday at 8 p.m.
