Trailing by as many as 11 points early on, The College of Wooster women's basketball team used a 14-4 scoring run to take a brief lead in the second half, but Ursuline College went on its own 18-2 run to break the game open, and eventually stormed away with a 73-61 win in non-conference action at Pepper Pike, Ohio.

Karley Walker opened the game with a 3-pointer, and Kristen Schwartz followed with a jumper that put the Scots (1-6) up 5-2 in the opening moments. Ursuline's Laura Campbell responded with her own 3-ball that made it 5-5, and then just 4:32 later, the Arrows (2-8) had built themselves an 11-point cushion (17-8).

Wooster clawed back to within 23-16, and then it gained momentum, putting together its previously mentioned 14-4 run. Mallory Band got things started with a 3-pointer, and jumpers by Keshia Butler and Schwartz tied the game 25-25. The Scots went into halftime with a one-point lead, and Jessica Wingen drained a bucket coming out of the break that extended Wooster's advantage to 30-27.

At that juncture, the Scots' shooters went cold, and Ursuline began assembling another double-digit lead. The Arrows went up as much as 15 at one point, and Wooster never cut the deficit to less than 56-49 during the remainder of the game.

The Scots were efficient at the free throw line (9-for-11), while Ursuline (15-for-23) got their twice as often. Neither team shot particularly well from the field, but the Arrows did score 23 of their points off of turnovers.

Schwartz had a solid outing, as she paced Wooster with 14 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Next up statistically were Suvi Puripattarapan (12 points), Walker (11 points), and Samantha Sulzer (10 points, eight rebounds).

Ursuline was led by Campbell, who scored 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting.

Wooster remains on the road Saturday when it visits North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University (3-6) at 1 p.m.
