Kristen Schwartz and Jessica Wingen each scored a career-high 22 points, and Suvi Puripattarapan nearly reached a rare triple-double, but The College of Wooster women's basketball team dropped its North Coast Athletic Conference tilt with Ohio Wesleyan University 88-78 Saturday at Delaware, Ohio.

The Scots (1-7, 0-2 NCAC) were very much in the game in the opening stanza, as they took small leads on three occasions, including 20-19 when Samantha Sulzer knocked down a bucket on a Puripattarapan assist. From that moment on, the Bishops (4-6, 1-0 NCAC) began to take control, thanks in large part to standout Pam Quigney, who scored 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting before the break.

Schwartz was impressive in the first half as well, as she had recorded 10 points on a tidy 5-for-6 shooting line, helping Wooster pull within seven (41-34) at intermission.

Wooster got as close as 45-41 early in the second period, when Puripattarapan drained a 3-ball on a Wingen assist, but then Ohio Wesleyan ran away on the scoreboard. The Bishops led by as much as 18 points at times by turning turnovers into fast break baskets, and eventually held off Wooster's late 12-5 scoring run to notch a victory.

Statistically, Schwartz and Wingen set new career-highs in scoring with 22 points each, and also added seven and six rebounds, respectively.

Puripattarapan, who was making the first start of her young career, narrowly missed a triple-double, totaling eight points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Her assist total was the most by a Scot since Vicki Meyer dished out nine on Jan. 12, 2005.

Quigney's 32 points led Ohio Wesleyan. Also noteworthy, Tyler Cordell chipped in 24 points and eight assists, and Kayla Gordon (11 points, 12 rebounds) notched a double-double in the win.

Wooster will look to snap its six-game losing skid next Saturday when it visits Bluffton University (3-3) at 2 p.m.
