WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster was dropped 66-38 by North Coast Athletic Conference perennial power Denison University in a women's basketball matchup Saturday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium.

The Scots (1-11, 0-4 NCAC) played some of their best basketball of the season in the first half, forcing the defending NCAC champions into just 31 percent shooting from the field (9-of-29) and 10 turnovers.

After a back-and-forth start to the action, a Samantha Sulzer layup put Wooster ahead 13-11 with about eight minutes remaining in the half. The Scots continued to hold a slight lead for nearly six minutes, until Denison (10-3, 3-1) ended the half on a 9-0 scoring run to make it 25-18 at the break.

It was all Denison in the second half, as the Big Red steadily added to their cushion by playing tough defense and shooting 13-of-16 at the foul line.

Jessica Wingen dealt with foul trouble in the first half, but finished the game strong to record a team-high 15 points (7-of-16) to go along with four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Sulzer scored 10 of her 12 points during the first half, and also noteworthy, Maura Hall pulled down a career-high eight boards.

Denison was led by Serafina Nuzzo who scored 19 points, dished out five assists, and totaled three steals.

Wooster will look to snap its losing skid when it hosts Hiram College (4-8, 1-3 NCAC) Wednesday at 6 p.m.
