No. 7 DePauw Too Much for Wooster
Scots fall 71-36 to nationally-ranked Tigers
The College of Wooster women's basketball team was overwhelmed by DePauw University, as the Tigers, who came into the game ranked No. 7 in this week's D3hoops.com top-25 poll, cruised to a 71-36 victory over the Fighting Scots in a North Coast Athletic Conference clash Saturday afternoon at Greencastle, Ind.
The Scots (2-12, 1-5 NCAC) took a 5-1 lead in the opening four minutes, as Jessica Wingen sunk a pair of free throws and Suvi Puripattarapan connected on a 3-pointer, but then the Tigers (13-1, 6-0 NCAC) went on a remarkable 32-2 scoring run to close out the first half.
After the break, Wooster played a much more competitive half, as it turned the ball over less and was outscored by just nine points (38-29). Samantha Sulzer scored all of her team-high 12 points in the second half, and Lindy Howard drained her first career bucket, a 3-pointer, as part of her career-high 12 minutes.
Also of note, Wingen fouled out of the game and settled for just five points, all coming on free throws, while Karley Walker hit a pair of 3-pointers on the day for six points.
The Scots also tied a season-high with 15 free throws made.
Wooster will kick off a three-game homestand when it hosts Oberlin College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
