WOOSTER, Ohio – Despite scoring a season-high 70 points, which included 27 from the bench, The College of Wooster women's basketball team came up short against Ohio Mid-Western College, 75-70, Monday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Lindy Howard and Lauren Hancher each scored career-highs, with 13 and 12 points, respectively, and Howard's all came in the second half when she shot 5-for-7 from the field. Her biggest bucket was a 3-pointer that put Wooster (4-4) ahead 46-45 about midway through the half, but the Rams (6-6) regained the lead moments later with a pair of free throws.

The Scots took back the advantage on the next possession, though, when Hancher connected on a midrange jumper that made it 48-47, but once again Ohio Mid-Western responded, as Ryan Thurman scored two of her game-high 32 points to put her team back on top (49-48). At that juncture, the Rams began to steadily pull away, hitting a large chunk of their 15 second-half free throws down the stretch to hold off Wooster in a closely-contested game.

With the score tied 6-6 early in the first half, the Scots went on an 11-0 scoring run that included two 3-pointers from Karley Walker to build a 17-6 cushion. Wooster trailed 30-28 momentarily with about two minutes remaining in the half, but the Scots went on a quick 5-0 run, which included a buzzer-beater from Sydney Grier, to go into the break in front 33-30.

Jessica Wingen and Walker led the Scots with 15 points apiece, giving the Scots four double-digit scorers in all. Wingen added 12 rebounds to tally her sixth double-double of the year, while Walker chipped in four assists and two blocked shots.

Thurman paced Ohio Mid-Western with 32 points and went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe.

The Scots, who have now swapped wins and losses over their last five games, will look to start a new winning streak Wednesday when they host California Institute of Technology (1-7) on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
