Hancher Named Second-Team All-NCAC
Sophomore post averages 14.8 ppg in breakout season
The College of Wooster women's basketball team has a strong building block for its future in sophomore Lauren Hancher and the North Coast Athletic Conference confirmed it by making her a second-team all-NCAC selection, the league office announced Wednesday.
Hancher, who is one of just four underclassmen to be named to this year's all-conference team, led the Fighting Scots and ranks fourth in the league with 14.8 points per game. She scored those points on 48.5 percent shooting from the field, the third-highest rate in the NCAC, despite being undersized while playing out of position due to team need.
The 5-7 post player was as consistent as it comes, reaching double figures in scoring in all but four games (21-of-25), with three of her single-digit efforts coming in match-ups with national powerhouse DePauw University. Hancher's season-high of 29 came during Wooster's winter break trip to Texas against Schreiner University (Dec. 18), where she went 11-for-22 from the field and 7-for-7 on free throws. She surpassed the 20-point mark four times in all.
Hancher also added 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 assists per game as part of a season which saw the Scots get off to their best start (5-0) in 23 years.
