Wooster Falls at Home to Nationally-Ranked DePauw

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell 83-43 to nationally-ranked DePauw University on Saturday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium.

DePauw (8-1, 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), which entered Saturday's matchup ranked 15th in the WBCA Coaches Poll and 16th in the D3hoops.com Poll, shot 54.7 percent from the floor and 57.1 from three-point range while holding Wooster (2-6, 0-3) to 36.7 percent from the floor and 23.1 percent from deep.

Sophomore Akwia Tilton led all Fighting Scots with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, one point shy of her career-high set last season against Kenyon College while tying her career-best for field goals made. Tilton also led Wooster with three steals.

Nearly three minutes into the game, a layup from Tilton and a free throw from sophomore Anna Gibbs put the score at 4-3 in DePauw's favor before the Tigers went on a 22-4 run to end the first period.

In the second, Gibbs, first-year Maria Janasko, sophomore Erica Roberts, and sophomore Kylie Orr all tallied buckets as the Scots entered halftime down 57-15.

As part of a fast start to the second half, Wooster outscored DePauw 18-11 in the third period behind five points from Tilton and four from Roberts. The Scots shot 8-for-11 in the period with six different players recording a field goal.

The Tigers ended the final stanza with a 15-10 scoring advantage, led by Maya Howard's four points.

DePauw's Sydney Kopp, who was named to last week's D3hoops.com Team of the Week, led all scorers with 18 points. Additionally, Howard's eight assists and Kylie Morris' 11 rebounds marked game-highs.

Roberts led Wooster with five rebounds, including four on the offensive end, while sophomore Courtney Lockhart led all players with two blocks.

Up next, Wooster hosts Denison University (4-6, 0-3 NCAC) on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m.
