Wooster Drops NCAC Opener to Allegheny, 65-60

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's basketball team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 65-60 loss to Allegheny College on Wednesday.

Allegheny received a game-high 21 points off the bench from junior guard Rylee Donovan who went 6-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-6 from deep. She also added seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.

Junior Maria Janasko led Wooster with a double-double at 16 points and 11 rebounds. Seniors Cat Fiorito and Akwia Tilton also added 11 rebounds as Wooster outrebounded Allegheny 63-41.

Sarah Marion scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore Jenna Stanton added eight points off the bench. Tilton and Aubri McKoy added seven points each.

Wooster shot just 27 percent (21-for-78) and was riddled by a 2-for-22 performance from beyond the arc (9 percent) and a 16-for-32 clip at the foul line (50 percent).

Allegheny was a little better, shooting 39 percent from the floor (22-for-56), 25 percent from deep (4-for-16) and 57 percent at the charity stripe (17-for-30).

Early in the fourth, Wooster got to within three points twice. Once came following a layup from Janasako and another came following a 3-pointer from McKoy.

However, Allegheny scored five straight, and Wooster never got closer. Wooster trailed by 10 with 3:27 remaining but used a late run to pull the game back to within five with 22 seconds left. A pair of missed layups sealed the game.

Wooster never led and fell into an 8-0 hole within the first three-and-a-half minutes. Allegheny led by as many as 13 late in the third quarter.

Wooster moves to 3-3 overall, while Allegheny improves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC.

Next up, the Scots travel to Ohio Wesleyan on Dec. 14.
