Scots Fall to Spartans 95-70 in Non-Conference Affair

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell to Case Western Reserve University 95-70 on Friday.

Junior Maria Janasko scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Scots. Senior Kylie Orr and sophomore Masani Francis came off the bench to score 11 each.

Senior Cat Fiorito scored eight points, dished out seven assists and collected five rebounds. Classmate Aubri McKoy and sophomore Jenna Stanton also added eight points each.

Case's Abbey Lawrence led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Isabella Mills scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Wooster held the lead just once when Stanton scored the game's first basket in the opening minute. With the game tied 4-4, Case went on an 11-0 run to pull away early.

Francis came off the bench to hit a quarter-ending layup as Wooster trailed 26-13 after one quarter. Case would lead by as many as 24 before taking a 50-34 lead into halftime.

Case built upon that lead in the third and won the fourth quarter 21-20.

The Spartans shot 53 percent (34-of-64) from the floor to Wooster's 32 percent (25-of-78). Wooster went 8-for-27 (30 percent) from 3-point range while Case went 10-for-23 (44 percent).

Case won the rebounding battle 44-43, and both teams scored 15 second chance points.

With the loss, Wooster falls to 4-5 on the year. Case Western Reserve, who came off a triple overtime win over Denison University, moves to 4-6.

Wooster will return to action on Dec. 29 when they travel to Roanoke College (6-3) to begin the two-day Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic.
