McKoy Scores 18 and Janasko Records Double-Double in Loss to Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's basketball team had a spirited fourth quarter, but a rough 21-9 third quarter was the difference in a 76-63 North Coast Athletic Conference loss to Hiram College on Saturday.

Senior Aubri McKoy scored a team-high 18 points, one-shy of her season-high, to lead the way for Wooster. Junior Maria Janasko followed with her fifth double-double of the year at 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior Kylie Orr scored 12 points off the bench, and A'Janay Nicholson followed with eight points. Akwia Tilton grabbed nine rebounds.

Hiram (6-12, 3-6 NCAC) was led by a 24-point performance from Tashauna Wright as Hiram sweeps the series against the Scots. Alainna Conroy scored 18 and Madison Branch added 10.

Wooster started off strong with a 9-0 run within the first four minutes of the game. However, Hiram clawed their way back and a 5-0 run to end the quarter gave them a 15-14 lead.

Wooster regained the lead in the early goings of the second quarter. A Sarah Marion 3-pointer made it a 23-19 game with seven minutes left in the first half.

With the game tied at 25, Hiram would take the advantage for the rest of the quarter and lead 34-29 at halftime.

Wooster never regained the lead in the second half as Hiram's 21-9 third quarter made it a 55-38 game entering the fourth. 

Hiram led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter. The Scots closed the gap thanks to a 13-4 run and got to within single digits with under a minute remaining but simply ran out of time.

Wooster held the rebounding advantage 45-40. They outscored the Terriers in bench points 24-9 and in the paint 36-30.

Wooster shot 37 percent (25-of-67) from the floor to Hiram's 40 percent (27-of-67). Wooster shot 22 percent (5-for-23) from range and 67 percent from the foul line (8-for-12). Hiram shot 24 percent (4-for-17) from deep and 82 percent (18-for-22) from the charity stripe.

Wooster falls to 5-13 overall and 1-8 in the NCAC. They host Allegheny College on Wednesday.
