The College of Wooster women's basketball team lost by less than three points for the second straight game as they dropped a 78-77 contest to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.

In their prior game, the Scots fell 77-74 to Kenyon College where a 3-pointer with seconds remaining decided the game. Against Ohio Wesleyan, senior Cat Fiorito sunk a 3-pointer with less than a second remaining, but the Scots ran out of time.

The 3-pointer tied Fiorito for a team-high 16 points. She added nine rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore Jenna Stanton scored a career-high 16 points as she was 5-for-7 from the court. Stanton had a late layup with four seconds left to make it a two-point game, but Ohio Wesleyan connected on a pair of free throws to secure the win.

Sarah Marion added 13 points and eight rebounds. Maria Janasko recorded a double-double at 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

A'Janay Nicholson grabbed 10 rebounds and scored five points off the bench. Wooster outrebounded the Bishops 54-30.

The difference in this one was free throws, turnovers and Ohio Wesleyan's Claire Sterling. The Scots shot just 56 percent (10-for-18) from the charity stripe and committed 21 turnovers, which were turned into 19 points.

Meanwhile, Sterling totaled a game-high 33 points with eight rebounds. She was 9-for-19 from the floor, 4-for-7 from range and 11-for-11 from the foul line.

Complimenting her was a 19-point performance from Cierra Joiner. Molly Delaney and Leah Maniaci each added 10 points as well.

Wooster had the edge every quarter except for the second when the Bishops took the quarter 26-18 to head into halftime with a 44-37 lead.

The Scots clawed back in the third to tie it at 53 and 55. However, Ohio Wesleyan gained some distance by the end of the quarter and led 64-59 after three.

Ohio Wesleyan led by as many as nine in the fourth. A 3-pointer from Akwia Tilton cut the lead to two with 3:27 left.

The Bishops then scored the next five. With less than 30 seconds remaining, Wooster trailed by five until Stanton hit her layup.

For the game, Wooster was 30-for-74 (41 percent) from the floor and 7-for-19 (37 percent) from deep. Ohio Wesleyan shot 43 percent (27-for-63) from the court, 41 percent (9-for-22) from 3-point range and 88 percent (15-for-17) from the foul line.

Ohio Wesleyan moves to 12-9 overall and 7-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster drops to 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

Wooster will try to get back on track Wednesday when they host Denison University.
