Scots Can't Finish as Denison Mounts Comeback

The College of Wooster women's basketball team could not finish down the stretch Wednesday as they lost 65-57 to Denison University in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Wooster led for a majority of the game up until there were eight minutes remaining, holding onto a 46-45 lead.

Denison's Lilly Morris hit a dagger from range, her only basket of the game, to give Denison a 48-46 lead with under seven minutes remaining, and it would be a lead they would never relinquish. They won the quarter 24-13 in a quarter where the Big Red shot 56 percent (10-for-18) while Wooster shot just 20 percent (4-for-20).

Denison's Alison Schafer scored a game-high 15 points. Wooster was led by a 14-point, 7-rebound performance from Aubri McKoy, who started the game by scoring Wooster's first six points.

Maria Janasko added 11 points and seven rebounds, and Akwia Tilton scored 10 points off the bench. Cat Fiorito led the team with eight rebounds and five assists, while also scoring four points.

Wooster shot 36 percent (21-for-59) for the game, 40 percent (8-for-20) from deep and 59 percent (7-for-12) from the foul line. They had a particularly good second quarter shooting from 3-point range at 4-for-7, in which the Scots took a 32-26 lead at halftime.

Denison countered with a 38 percent (28-for-74) showing from the floor, while shooting 15 percent (2-for-14) from deep and 78 percent (7-for-9) from the charity stripe.

Wooster outrebounded the Big Red 45-42. However, Wooster's 25 turnovers, led to 23 points for Denison. Wooster scored 18 second chance points and was outscored in the paint 42-24.

Denison moves to 16-6 overall and 10-3 in the NCAC. Wooster drops to 6-16 and 2-11 in conference play.

Wooster travels to Wittenberg University on Saturday.
