Shots Don't Fall for Scots in 67-36 Loss to Wittenberg

Kylie Orr

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Not a lot went right for The College of Wooster women's basketball team on Saturday in a 67-36 loss at Wittenberg University.

It was as if a lid was encased on the rim as the Scots shot just 19 percent (12-for-64) from the floor and 20 percent (5-for-25) from 3-point range.

Senior Kylie Orr came off the bench to hit three of those 3-pointers to score a team-high 11 points. Junior Maria Janasko added 10 points and six rebounds.

Wittenberg, who celebrated their seniors, had four players in double figures and was led by Korynne Berner who scored 18 points.

The Tigers shot 46 percent (28-for-61) from the court, 32 percent (6-for-19) from 3-point range and 42 percent (5-for-12) at the foul line.

Wooster never led in the game as Wittenberg jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Sarah Marion stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer, but Wittenberg then scored 11 straight and eventually led 24-8 after the first quarter.

At halftime, Wittenberg led 37-16, but the Scots came out of the half and matched the Tigers with a 15-15 third quarter. Orr and Janasko each score six in the quarter.

First-years saw playing time in the fourth. Jasmine Thompson scored her first collegiate points and finished with three points.

Wittenberg (18-6, 11-4 NCAC) entered in third place of the North Coast Athletic Conference standings. In the prior meeting in Wooster, which Wittenberg took 80-74, the two teams played even after the first quarter. Yet, Wittenberg shot over 50 percent.

Wooster (6-17, 2-12 NCAC) has their final road game Wednesday against Oberlin College (8-15, 5-9) before returning home for their season finale the following Saturday to take on third-ranked DePauw University.
