Scot Rewind: Wooster Breaks Program Record for Most Points

Kylie Orr
Wooster broke its program record for points on this date in 2019!

Welcome back to the Scot Rewind, where WoosterAthletics.com is taking a look back at a big win, a monster individual performance, or a significant milestone corresponding with each week of the 2020-2021 academic year. This week's rewind takes us back one year to December 17, 2019, when The College of Wooster's women's basketball team scored a single-game program-best 96 points in a 96-72 win over Mount Saint Joseph University. Here's the recap from that signature win.

Wooster's women's basketball team scored the most points in a single game in program history on Tuesday after a 96-72 win over Mount St. Joseph.

Five players reached double figures as the Scots were led by 17-point performances from senior Akwia Tilton and junior Sarah Marion. Marion's 17 set a new career-high.

Junior Maria Janasko added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Masani Francis came off the bench to score 11 after going 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from 3-point range, and classmate Jenna Stanton finished with 10 points.

Senior Aubri McKoy added nine off the bench, and Kylie Orr saw her first action of the year, adding eight points herself. Cat Fiorito added six points, six assists and seven rebounds, and sophomore Krista English scored six of the team's final seven points for her first points as a Fighting Scot.

First-year Paige Wells also scored her first point with a free throw in the final quarter.

Wooster connected on 13 3-pointers, shooing 46 percent from range. They also shot 46 percent from the floor (35-of-77) and 68 percent from the foul line (13-of-19).

Mount Saint Joseph was led by Maddi Haberthy who scored a game-high 23 points.

Wooster caught fire within the first four minutes and the game tied 8-8. That started a 13-0 run as Marion connected on three 3-pointers in that span.

Wooster led 32-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The second was more of the same as Wooster led 50-23 midway through the quarter. However, the Lions switched to a zone defense that disrupted Wooster's rhythm, holding the Scots scoreless in the final five minutes until Fiorito scored on a buzzer-beating layup.

Wooster led 54-32 at halftime. Their largest lead came at the end of three quarters, 81-50.

The Scots outrebounded the Lions 46-34. They scored 33 points off turnovers and 26 points in the paint. The Wooster bench also outscored Mount St. Joseph 35-19.

Note: Wooster initially ended the game at 97 points but a baseline 3-pointer in the third quarter was later corrected to a 2-pointer.
