Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because no other place I visited even came close to Wooster. I loved the campus, the academics, and the people I met right away. I knew this was where I was supposed to be.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means positively representing The College of Wooster while competing on the court while also receiving a top-tier college education.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories as a student-athlete include long bus rides with my teammates, beating Franciscan for our first win of my senior season, spending many hours in the library with teammates, and so much more.
Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is the ability to truly focus on your academics and making that a priority while also competing at a high level in my sport. It has been amazing to see the support we receive from faculty, students, etc. I've loved every minute of my time here.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am one of the women's basketball team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives, a member of Athletes InterVarsity (Christian fellowship group), the secretary of Kappa Delta Pi (education honor society), and a member of Alpha Gamma Phi. I was an English department assistant as a junior.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Leslie Wingard has been the most impactful College of Wooster faculty member to me. I took two of her classes, served as one of her teaching apprentices, and worked for her as a department assistant, which I consider an absolute honor to have done so. She has been someone who constantly believes in me and sees my potential, even when I couldn't always see it myself. Whether we are talking about our shared interest of basketball or English, she never fails to bring a smile to my face, and I will truly miss her! I cannot thank her enough!
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Ryan Ozar has been a huge part of my Wooster experience. He's an amazing professor and I truly appreciate all of the time I've spent learning from him (and his support of our team!). Nat McCoy is another person who does not receive enough credit for her work. I loved every minute I spent working alongside her in the English department! Dr. Susanna Sacks has made my Wooster experience great. She has been my advisor for my Junior and Senior Independent Study and she has helped me learn and grow so much. Rachel Novario, our athletic trainer, as well as Coach (Mary Kate) Tierney and Coach (Mariyah) Byrd have also been huge positive influences on me. I can't thank all of these people enough for all they've done for me in the classroom and on the court. I wouldn't be here without them!
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study evaluates two modern young adult texts as alternatives to canonical texts while also developing an approach that white teachers can use to educate predominantly white classrooms about anti-racism using the young adult novels.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Something cool I did as a student-athlete at the College of Wooster was participate in Adopt-A-Family with my teammates/SAAC each year. Our team would be assigned a family. We would raise money, purchase and wrap gifts, and then give the gifts to social services so they could be delivered to the family in need during the holiday season.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to not compare my aspirations, accomplishments, or anything else to anyone else's and to not worry about what I can't control.
