Guilliams records career-high 13 points in first career start
The College of Wooster women's basketball team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with an 83-34 defeat to Oberlin College.
One of the top scorers in the league, Alyson Jefferson, scored a game-high 20 points for the Yeowomen.
The only other double-digit scorer in the game came from Wooster's Shalen Guilliams. She received her first start in just her third game, scoring 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
Alyssa Chritz tallied a game-high nine rebounds and added eight points. Ella Biondi finished with five points and three rebounds.
Wooster struggled from the opening tip as Chritz gave Wooster its first points with 1:39 left in the first quarter. Oberlin led 16-3 after one quarter.
Wooster rebounded in the second quarter to score 14 points but still trailed 36-17 at halftime. Oberlin kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring Wooster 47-17 in the final two frames.
Wooster shot just 17 percent (10-of-60) from the floor and connected on 21 percent (5-of-24) of its 3-pointer attempts. They also shot 56 percent (9-of-16) from the foul line.
Oberlin (8-4, 1-0 NCAC) shot 49 percent (32-of-65) for the game and outrebounded the Scots 52-30.
Wooster is now 1-11 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC. They travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.
