Biondi Records Fifth Double-Double in Loss

The College of Wooster women's basketball team played a tight first quarter with Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday but ultimately fell 79-42 in their second North Coast Athletic Conference matchup against the Battling Bishops this year.

First-year Ella Biondi led the way with 13 points and 11 rebounds. It was her first double-double since Dec. 3 and her fifth of the year.

Shalen Guilliams, Mia Walker and Ella Dean all recorded six points. Namara Rwakatare recorded five and Erica Beaty scored four.

Ohio Wesleyan had three score in double figures. Karlee Ross led the game with 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Lauren Denison scored 15 and Kasey Schipfer scored 14.

The teams went back-and-forth early thanks to baskets from Beaty and Walker, but Wooster's 4-3 lead vanished after a 7-0 run.

Wooster used the end of the quarter to get closer. Guilliams connected on a 3-pointer before Wooster recorded three points the hard way as Rwakatare went 1-of-2 from the line and Alex Walker scored on a putback.

Wooster trailed 15-12 after one quarter of play but struggled to get going in the second quarter as they wound up trailing 41-20 at halftime.

Wooster shot 33 percent from the floor (15-of-46), 20 percent (4-of-20) from 3-point range and 67 percent (8-of-12) from the foul line.

Ohio Wesleyan shot 41 percent (29-of-71), 27 percent (7-of-26) from three and 82 percent (14-of-17) from the charity stripe.

Ohio Wesleyan forced 31 turnovers and only committed 12 themselves, scoring 40 points off Wooster mishaps.

They also held the slight rebound advantage 41-34. Wooster scored 15 second chance points and received 12 points off the bench.

This is the first repeat opponent for the Scots this season, who fell to the Battling Bishops 78-39 on Jan. 7.

Wooster moves to 1-17 overall and 0-7 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 10-8 and 5-2 in conference games.

Wooster is away for its next three games, starting with a Saturday contest at DePauw University.
