Scots Start Hot in Road Opener

Ace Sturdivant COLUMBUS – The College of Wooster women's basketball team pulled ahead early but could not sustain its first quarter momentum in a 78-53 loss at Capital University on Tuesday.

In the first quarter, Wooster went 7 of 11 from the floor while Capital shot just 3 of 23. The Scots were connecting from range as well, shooting 83 percent (5 of 6).

Capital hit the opening points with a 3-pointer, but Wooster would rattle off the next eight points.

From there, Wooster turned an 8-6 lead into a 21-9 lead thanks to a 13-3 run, which included a 10-0 run. Chritz was almost unstoppable, going 4 of 4 from 3-point range and 5 of 7 from the floor. She also grabbed six rebounds in the quarter.

Unfortunately, Capital reversed its fortunes in not just the second quarter but the third as well. They won the second 22-6 and came out of halftime to win the third 26-7, which was highlighted by a 15-0 run in the second to shift the tone of the game.

Chritz tied with sophomore Ella Biondi for a team-high 14 points in the game. Chritz ended with a game-high nine rebounds, while Biondi followed with seven.

Ace Sturdivant scored nine points and added six rebounds and four assists. First-year Kylie Parsons came off the bench to contribute six points, while Alexis Lovejoy scored five.

Capital was led by a 13-point performance from Bri O'Connor.

Wooster (1-4) shot 46 percent (20 of 44) for the game, and 44 percent (8 of 18) from 3-point range. Capital (2-2) shot 38 percent (27 of 71) and went 37 percent (10 of 27) from range. 

Wooster will return home on Dec. 1 in its next matchup to take on Miami-Hamilton.
