Scots Get Back Into NCAC Action

DELAWARE – The College of Wooster women's basketball team met with Ohio Wesleyan University for the first time this season on Wednesday, taking an 81-43 loss in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Senior Alyssa Chritz scored a team-high 15 points with seven rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Ella Biondi added 12 points and nine rebounds, while first-year Alexis Lovejoy sunk a pair of three-pointers to score six points.

Ohio Wesleyan's Kasey Schipfer led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double.

The teams played a competitive first quarter as Wooster took an early 4-0 lead. However, once Ohio Wesleyan got going, they did not stop.

Their first field goal came four minutes into the contest, and they scored eight straight to take an 8-4 lead. Wooster pulled within two via a layup from Chritz, but that would be the closest they would get for the rest of the game.

Chritz scored the final four points of the quarter to pull Wooster within four at 16-12. Yet, a 25-6 second quarter put Wooster in a deficit they could not overcome.

Wooster shot 31 percent (15 of 48). They also went 21 percent (3 of 14) from deep and shot 63 percent (10 of 16) from the foul line.

Ohio Wesleyan shot 43 percent (32 of 74) and were limited from range, shooting just 11 percent (2 of 18).

The Battling Bishops (14-4, 5-2 NCAC) outrebounded the Scots 44-34, collecting 15 second chance points along the way.

Of note, first-year Katelyn Barnes scored her first collegiate points in the fourth quarter.

The Scots (5-13, 0-7 NCAC) will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Denison University at 1 p.m.
