Women Lose Halftime Lead as Sturdivant Scores 20

First-year Ace Sturdivant reached the 20-point mark for the second time in her collegiate career on Wednesday as The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell to Oberlin College 51-41 in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

For the fifth time this season, Sturdivant made a season-high seven field goals to go along with two 3-pointers and a 4 of 5 mark from the foul line.  She also led Wooster with eight rebounds, all coming off the defensive end.

Wooster (6-16, 1-10 NCAC), coming off its first NCAC win of the season over Kenyon College, looked prime for another upset as they led Oberlin (15-7, 6-5 NCAC) 24-23 at halftime. However, the Scots got cold and could not recover in time to claim the victory.

Wooster went on a scoring drought after a 1 of 11 third quarter from the court. Wooster scored the first points in the quarter at the 7:05 mark and another two points at 6:25.

From there, Oberlin went from trailing 28-26 to embarking on a 20-point run, leading 46-28 until Sturdivant broke the drought with just 2:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Wooster finally found its stroke in the final minutes of the game, scoring 13 points and winning the quarter 13-11.

The Scots had to fight back from a 14-8 first quarter deficit and would take the lead at halftime with a 16-9 second quarter.

Sturdivant and Ella Biondi each contributed four points in the quarter. Alyssa Chritz scored five points and senior Melissa Burtscher sunk a 3-pointer.

While Sturdivant had the game-high 20 points, Biondi followed with 10 points and six rebounds. Chritz and Burtscher's only points came in that second quarter.

Oberlin was led by a 16-point performance from Ellie Pollock-Ballard while Camille Zinaich finished with eight points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Next, the Scots hit the road Saturday when they take on Wittenberg University.
