Hardink scores career-high 10 points in loss to OWU
The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell to Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday in the team's final home game of the season.
Anna Hardink had her best offensive performance to date as the first-year scored 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting. She made good use of post moves on the block and also brought in five rebounds.
Classmate Alexis Lovejoy sunk a pair of 3-pointers for six points, and sophomore Erica Beaty scored five.
Three others – Melissa Burtscher, Alyssa Chritz and Ella Biondi all finished with four points. Biondi led the team with seven rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan (20-4, 11-2 NCAC) was led by a 21-point performance from Kasey Schipfer. Four others reached double figures in scoring while Elizabeth Homan recorded a game-high 10 assists.
Wooster (6-18, 1-12 NCAC) kept pace in the second and third quarters but got off to a bad start against the North Coast Athletic Conference leading Battling Bishops.
Wooster shot just 2 of 13 from the floor in the first quarter, while Ohio Wesleyan shot the other way, going 10 of 15 from the floor and taking a commanding 25-4 lead after one.
Wooster stayed within seven in the second quarter and tied the Bishops 16-16 in the third quarter.
Beaty scored all five of her points in the quarter, while Burtscher and Hardink added four each. Lovejoy connected on one of her two 3-pointers as well as Wooster shot 44 percent (7 of 16) for their best offensive quarter.
For the game, Ohio Weselyan shot 48 percent (34 of 71) while Wooster was at 32 percent (17 of 53).
The Bishops outscored Wooster in the paint 40-18 and outscored Wooster's bench 27-10.
Wooster has one final regular season game. They travel to DePauw University on Saturday.
