Riccitelli Hits Career-Marks in Loss to Miami Hamilton
First-year scores 27 points with seven assists and five rebounds
The College of Wooster women's basketball team fell to Miami University Hamilton 74-64 on Saturday despite a career-high 27-point performance from first-year Mackenzie Riccitelli.
Riccitelli shot 10 of 18 from the court, including a 4 of 9 mark from deep and a 3 of 4 showing at the foul line. She also produced a career-high seven assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Sophomore Ace Sturdivant was another key producer for the Scots, adding 23 points on 8 of 16 shooting and a 5 of 9 mark from range. She fell one rebound shy of the double-double with nine and added two assists.
Junior Ella Biondi finished with six points and seven boards. First-year Emily Webb scored four points and grabbed six boards, and sophomore Anna Hardink saw her first action of the season, scoring four points and tallying four rebounds.
Miami Hamilton (7-5) received a 23-point, 12 rebound performance from A'Vyonna Kinsey, while three others reached double figures in scoring.
Wooster (2-6) ended up shooing better from the floor (44 percent) than Miami-Hamilton (42 percent), while both teams were nearly identical percentage-wise from 3-point range. However, Miami-Hamilton committed just six turnovers to Wooster's 23.
That led to Miami-Hamilton outscoring Wooster 26-3 on points from turnovers. Furthermore, they outscored Wooster's bench 23-4 and scored 14 fast break points.
While each quarter was played to within four points, Miami-Hamilton held the edge in all four.
Wooster came out scoring the first four points and held their largest lead of the game at five, 14-9, with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. Miami-Hamilton scored the final nine points of the quarter to take an 18-14 lead.
Wooster used an 8-2 run to open the second quarter to retake the lead at 22-20 but would trail 38-32 at halftime.
Wooster would later put together a 10-1 run to take control at 47-44. However, the offense slowed, allowing Miami-Hamilton to end the quarter with a 57-50 lead.
Wooster got as close as four in the fourth quarter before Miami-Hamilton seized control in the final minutes.
This was the second meeting between the two teams after Wooster won last year's game 111-100 in double overtime.
Next, the Scots will play a pair of games in Michigan, starting at Kalamazoo College on Tuesday.
