GRANVILLE – The College of Wooster women's basketball team returned to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, falling on the road to Denison University, 75-53.
Sophomore Ace Sturdivant and first-year Mackenzie Riccitelli each scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Scots. Sophomore Kylie Parsons added a career-high eight points off the bench.
Denison was led by a 13-point performance from Violet Mitchell, while Abby Cooch scored eight points, dished out 10 assists and collected six steals.
The Big Red (9-5, 2-1 NCAC) led the whole way, including a 26-9 lead after one. Wooster had its best run of the game in the second quarter at 8-0, but still trailed by 17 when it was over.
Wooster tied Denison in second half play, which included taking the fourth quarter, 12-10.
The Scots committed 27 turnovers, which turned into 31 Denison points. However, Wooster ended up outrebounding the Big Red 28-26.
Wooster shot 43 percent (19 of 44) from the floor, 33 percent (4 of 12) from range and a decent 77 percent (11 of 14) from the foul line. Denison shot 48 percent (31 of 65), 29 percent (9 of 31) from deep and 50 percent (4 of 8) from the charity stripe.
Wooster (3-11, 0-3 NCAC) will return home Wednesday to take on Hiram College.
