Riccitelli Scores 30, Another Career-High
Scots held one-point halftime lead in loss to Hiram
First-year Mackenzie Riccitelli put up another career-high on Wednesday, dropping 30 points in The College of Wooster women's basketball team's 96-68 loss to Hiram College.
The first-year could not be stopped in the first half, totaling 26 points on 9 of 11 shooting and a 6 of 7 mark from 3-point range. However, the Terriers clamped down on Riccitelli in the second half, erasing Wooster's 37-36 halftime lead.
Hiram had an unexpecting counter in Jo Janda, who scored 24 points off the bench. Janda, who averaged 5.9 ppg entering the contest, shot 8 of 12 from the floor and 4 of 5 from distance.
Brooke Hickman added 21 points and seven rebounds for the Terriers. Wooster's Ace Sturdivant contributed 17 points for the team.
Hiram scored a whopping 32 points in the third quarter alone and added another 28 in the fourth. Wooster could not keep up at the rate Hiram was scoring and was hurt by 24 turnovers committed in the game.
Hiram shot a blistering 51 percent (38 of 74) while Wooster shot a respectable 43 percent (23 of 53). Both teams hit nine 3-pointers but in the paint, Hiram outscored Wooster 50-26.
In addition, the Terriers (9-6, 2-2 NCAC) outrebounded Wooster (3-12, 0-4 NCAC) 38-29, the bench outscored 43-10 and Hiram scored 22 points off turnovers.
Riccitelli was one 3-pointer shy of tying the school record for 3-pointers made in a game. Also, she was two points away from tying the 12th most points scored in a game.
Next, the Scots will travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday for another North Coast Athletic Conference matchup.
