Riccitelli Scores 20 as Scots Battle Tigers
Women's basketball falls to Wittenberg 90-45
The College of Wooster women's basketball team was led by a 20-point performance from first-year Mackenzie Riccitelli as the Scots fell to Wittenberg University 90-45 on Saturday.
Wittenberg (13-6, 5-3 NCAC), who sits third in the North Coast Athletic Conference, had five reach double figures including Karsen Karlblom. She finished with a double-double at 13 points and 11 rebounds.
For Wooster (4-15, 1-7 NCAC), Riccitelli shot 7 of 14 from the floor, 3 of 5 from range and 3 of 4 from the foul line.
Junior Ella Biondi tallied seven points and four rebounds. First-year Ellery Kloek scored six off the bench, and junior Ella Dean added five points.
Wittenberg jumped out 14-2 start before Wooster started getting some offense going. Riccitelli hit a 3-pointer to close the quarter, and that gave Wooster some momentum for what would be a strong showing in the second quarter. They played almost even with the Tigers, falling 18-14 in the quarter.
Riccitelli scored all seven points of a 7-2 run that forced a Wittenberg timeout, which seemingly got the Tigers back on track.
Rebounding was an issue for Wooster on Saturday, getting outrebounded 45-22. Wittenberg also shot well from the floor at 54 percent (37 of 68).
Meanwhile, Wooster shot just 31 percent (15 of 49) from the floor and from range (5 of 16). They got to the foul line 17 times and connected on 10 points there.
Wittenberg scored 27 points off turnovers, 20 second chance points and outscored Wooster 15-0 in fastbreak points.
Next, the Scots will continue NCAC play and will travel to Oberlin College on Wednesday.
