14th-Ranked Bishops Too Much For Scots
Riccitelli leads Wooster with 19 points, eight rebounds
The College of Wooster women's basketball team saw Ohio Wesleyan University for the second time this season, taking an 86-45 loss at Timken Gymnasium.
The 14th-ranked Bishops continued their dominance within Division III and the North Coast Athletic Conference, moving to 21-2 overall and 12-0 in conference play. Saturday's win was their 14th straight.
Macy Miller led all scorers with 25 points. Kasey Schipfer added 16, and Elizabeth Homan scored 10.
For Wooster (4-19, 1-11 NCAC), it was a tough task in their home finale.
First-year Mackenzie Riccitelli put up a team-high 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Juniors Ella Dean and Ella Biondi each added seven points, while Biondi added three blocked shots.
Ohio Wesleyan got off to a blistering start, shooting 67 percent (14 of 21) in the first quarter and taking a 30-9 lead after one.
The Scots were better in the second quarter but trailed 48-21 at halftime. Dean and Riccitelli, who each scored eight as the leading scorers in the prior matchup, combined for 15 points in the first half alone on Saturday.
Another bright spot for the Scots was the fourth quarter, which they won 16-13. Riccitelli scored seven points in the quarter to lead the charge, which featured Wooster scoring 12 straight points.
Sophomore Kylie Parsons gave valuable minutes, scoring two points and pulling down three rebounds. Ellery Kloek and Lynx Lander each scored two points also.
Ohio Wesleyan's defensive pressure forced 28 turnovers, which turned into 42 points. They outscored the Scots in the paint 52-22 and in fast break points, 17-7
Wooster shot 36 percent (16 of 44) for the game, compared to Ohio Wesleyan's 53 percent (39 of 73).
Next, the Scots travel to Kenyon College on Wednesday. The Scots defeated Kenyon last time out, 66-57.
