Riccitelli Named NCAC Newcomer of the Year
First-year becomes first Scot to win award since 2006-07
First-year Mackenzie Riccitelli became the first Fighting Scot to win the North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year award since 2007 and was named to the All-NCAC Third Team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Riccitelli was a much-needed offensive addition for the Scots as the first-year led the team and was third in the conference averaging 16.6 points per game.
She started the season scoring in double figures in the first 15 games of the season and finished doing so in 22 of the 25 games.
In conference play, Riccitelli averaged 14.9 points per game for fifth amongst NCAC players. Her 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game were second on the team as well.
Riccitelli scored 20 or more points nine times, including a season-high 30 versus Hiram College on Jan. 15. She also led the Scots in its 66-57 win against Kenyon College, scoring 22 in the process.
Her productive season also put her in the Wooster single season record books. Her 416 points is seventh in the program's all-time scoring list for a season, while her scoring average of 16.6 puts her 10th.
In addition, her 45 3-pointers ranked sixth and her .843 free throw percentage is tied for seventh. The .843 free throw percentage also currently puts Riccitelli first in the career records (75 of 89).
Kym Wenz was the last Fighting Scot to earn Newcomer of the Year as Wooster has now collected the honor a total of four times.
Ohio Wesleyan University swept the three other major awards. Kasey Schipfer was named Player of the Year; Macy Miller was named Top Defensive Player and the Bishops also earned the Coaching Staff of the Year.
