Scots Cap the Fall in Fifth-Place at Own Wooster Invite
Gabriel leads the way on day one with a 90
The College of Wooster women's golf team closed the fall portion of its season by finishing just 10 strokes out of third-place at its own nine-team Wooster Fall Invitational, held at the Wooster Country Club during breezy and cool conditions this Saturday and Sunday.
Wooster was in a tight pack with Ohio Wesleyan University (743) and Capital University (750) throughout the 36 holes, but placed just behind them in fifth with a 753 score, while Baldwin Wallace University edged Denison University 668 to 685 for the team championship. The remaining four teams were 58-plus shots behind the Fighting Scots.
All four individual scorers for Wooster over the first 18 holes scored between 90-96, paced by Hanna Gabriel as the team's only senior matched her season-low 90. Alyssia Gilbert brought a season-low 92 into the clubhouse, while the Scots' top-two in the starting lineup, Rainey Sullivan and Sharmeen Chinoy, carded 95 and 96, respectively, to put them in a tie for third in the team standings after day one.
Sullivan and Chinoy improved the second 18, both shooting 91 which put the former in a tie for 17th-place (186) and the latter in a tie for 22nd-place (187). Gabriel's 97 also put her in 22nd individually (187), while Gilbert turned in a 101 for a 27th-place tie (193). There were 56 total golfers in the event.
