After a record-setting round Sunday, Wooster received a special visitor from the nearby Columbus Zoo. |
It was a record-setting weekend for The College of Wooster women's golfers, as they combined for three team records while placing fourth at the nine-team Ohio Wesleyan University Fall Invitational, which took place at the Safari Golf Club in Powell, Ohio, Saturday and Sunday.
First, led by sophomore Sharmeen Chinoy's 77 – the lowest 18-hole round in the program's four-year history – Wooster scored a then-record 338 during Saturday's action, putting the Fighting Scots in third. Also contributing to the round were first-years Hannah Buzolits (84), Emily Howerton (85), and Isabelle Clairmonte (92).
Wooster performed even better Sunday, chipping four more strokes off its single-round team record to 334. The Scots' scorers were Chinoy (78), Howerton (83), senior Janet Zahorsky (85), and Buzolits (88), as they totaled a 36-round team record of 672, just five strokes shy of second-place Ohio Wesleyan University (667).
Individually, Chinoy finished in fourth-place out of the 61 competitors with a 155, seven off the pace of medalist Miranda Santucci (148) of Allegheny College. Howerton was just outside the top-10, tying for 11th (168) and Buzolits took 21st overall (172).
Also notable, another Wooster first-year, Mallorey Stack, tied for 11th (82-86) while competing as an individual.
The Scots will host the Wooster Fall Invitational at Wooster Country Club this coming weekend.
