WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's golf team improved by eight strokes on Sunday and tied for the day's low round at 345, but the Fighting Scots couldn't make up any ground on the University of Mount Union, as Wooster placed second at its own Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational with a two-day total of 698.

First-year Tongtong Wu has a pair of top-three finishes to her credit on the season thanks to a steady weekend at the challenging Wooster Country Club.

First-year Tongtong Wu led the way for Wooster with a third-place score of 167. Wu's weekend jumped out to a steady start as the Shenzhen, China native was 2-over-par through six holes during her 85 on Saturday, thanks to a run of pars between holes three and six at the par-72, 5,830-yard Wooster Country Club. On Sunday, Wu lowered her score to an 82, in large part due to her stellar play on the front nine. Wu's round was headlined by a birdie on the par-5, 474-yard No. 7.

Victoria Roney, Wooster's lone senior, added a top-10 finish at 173. On Sunday, Roney was at 2-over-par through 12 holes and had a six-hole par streak on the front nine. Roney finished at 84 for the round, marking a five-shot improvement from Saturday's 89. During Saturday's round, Roney turned in a stellar front nine and was 5-over-par at the turn.

Wooster's sophomore class came up big during the tournament as Hannah Appleman finished at 178 and Kaci Carpenter was four strokes back, with both scores good for a top-20 finish. Appleman's 87 on Saturday marked Wooster's second-lowest score of the round, and her scorecard had seven pars on it. On Sunday, Appleman turned in a 91, but really stepped up on the difficult back nine with three straight pars to kick-start the final stretch of the tournament. Carpenter's Sunday round jumped out to a roaring start with a birdie on the lengthy par-5, 475-yard No. 1. She went on to finish at 88 after a 94 on Saturday.

First-year Megan Gronau rounded out the lineup with a 187, and finished just outside of the top 20. Gronau opened with a 92 and closed with a 95 with a birdie on the par-4, 346-yard No. 6 on Saturday headlining her tournament.

Four Scots competed as individuals with first-year Devon Matson leading the quartet at 189. Matson's scorecard indicated a five-shot improvement with a 92 on Sunday.

Mount Union led the nine-team field at 688, and ironically the tournament's namesake transferred there after a year at Wooster back in the late 1930s due to not be able to compete on the Scots' men's team. Marietta College's Jackie Cunningham cruised to the medalist honor with a 150, 13 shots better than Mount Union's Olivia DeMartino.

Wooster wraps up its fall season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Fall Preview held at Westbrook Country Club in Mansfield, Ohio, Oct. 15-16.
