POWELL, Ohio – Junior Lilly Dunning's fifth-place finish headlined The College of Wooster women's golf team's third-place showing at Ohio Wesleyan University's Fall Invitational, which was held at the par-72, 5,823-yard Safari Golf Club this weekend.

Dunning broke 80 for the first time as a Fighting Scot on Saturday. In fact, the political science major's 76 was a stroke shy of matching senior Hannah Appleman's program-record 75, which she shot during April's Laura Bump Invitational. Dunning followed with an 80 on Sunday to finish at 156.

Junior Megan Gronau had six fewer strokes on her Sunday scorecard, and that led to a seven-place climb on the leaderboard. Gronau went 86-80-166 for the weekend and tied for 14th-place. Senior Kaci Carpenter was right behind, with her 167 marking the 16th-best score for the 36-hole tournament. Carpenter's opening-round 79 marked her first sub-80 collegiate round.

Senior Hannah Appleman and sophomore Meghan Wright rounded out Wooster's lineup. Appleman finished in the top 20 at 169, while Wright fired back-to-back 86s to tie for 25th-place.

Wooster opened the tournament with a 326 on Saturday and fired a 330 on Sunday to finish at 656.

Denison University led the six-team field at 593, while the Big Red's Emmy Timberlake was the medalist after a 1-over-par 145

Next, Wooster will be looking to defend its team title at Heidelberg University's Fall Invitational, which is slated for September 14-15 at Mohawk Golf & Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio.
