Senior Salute: Megan Gronau
Neuroscience major is a member of the women’s golf team
Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Megan Gronau, a neuroscience major from Livonia, Michigan. Gronau is a member of the women's golf team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster due to the many research opportunities and the Independent Study project. Wooster has great academics as well as athletics that allow me to play the sport I love while getting an amazing education.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: To represent Wooster every weekend at golf tournaments is truly an honor. It means the world to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: One favorite memory I have as a student at Wooster is filling Kauke Arch with snow as a first-year. Another favorite memory of mine is being a part of the Wooster Summer in Tuscany program and spending a month studying in Siena, Italy.
Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at Wooster is the camaraderie between all of my teammates. I will cherish all of these friendships forever. It is also amazing to be able to play on some beautiful golf courses in Ohio and South Carolina.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: Besides being part of the women's golf team, I have been a member of Greek Life for the past three years and the Neuroscience Club on campus.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Lisa Campanell Komara has made the greatest impact on me during my time at Wooster. Coach Lisa is one of the most caring and kind individuals I know. She always knows how to encourage and support me whether on or off the golf course.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: APEX (Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning) has really impacted my Wooster experience in a positive way. APEX has helped me to create a plan and set goals I want to achieve for after graduation.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study is an examination into common test-taking anxieties' effect on academic performance mediated by motivation and achievement goal orientation. I created my own study via Qualtrics to take a deeper look into test-taking anxiety and how it is impacted by different factors.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: In the summer before my junior year, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Siena, Italy. Being able to explore the historic city of Siena and other cities in Tuscany was amazing. It was truly a life-changing experience, filled with laughs and smiles.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: One piece of advice I would give my first-year self would be, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and to always reach for the stars.
