Scots Win Grove City Fall Invite, Burtscher Captures Medalist Honors

Melissa Burtscher GROVE CITY, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's golf team captured the title at the nine-team Grove City College Fall Invite on Saturday, and sophomore Melissa Burtscher was the medalist at 82. Wooster's 356 was 17 strokes better than runner-up Marietta College.

Burtscher got on a roll on the back nine at the par-72, 5,848-yard Grove City Country Club. The psychology major birdied the par-4, 402-yard 10th hole, and she later added a birdie on the par-5, 470-yard 16th hole. Burtscher played the back nine at 3-over-par, and her 82 is one off a collegiate-best, which was set this past Sunday at Denison University's Lynn Schweizer Invitational. Of note, Burtscher's the seventh Scot to earn medalist honors at a traditional tournament, and her victory marked the 11th time a Wooster women's golfer has finished atop the leaderboard in a traditional tournament.

First-year Ally Siewert logged a top-five debut with the fourth-place score of 88. Siewert book-ended Saturday's round with pars, and she had six on the day. Siewert logged a par on three of the four par-3 holes.

Sophomore Drew Patterson, who was playing as an individual, tied for sixth-place, thanks to a strong closing stretch. Patterson, who fired a collegiate-low of 91, pared three of her final six holes on Saturday.

Senior Meghan Wright tied for 12th-place in her season debut. Wright shot a 92. Classmate Kayla Audette gave Wooster five finishers in the top-15. Audette's 94 was tied for 15th-place, and she had three pars on the back nine.

First-year Maddie Moran tied for 19th-place (97) as an individual and junior Riley Thorr (98) tied for 21st-place while playing in the lineup. Thorr, who started on hole four, logged three straight pars from holes 17-1.

Wooster's team title is the ninth in program history, and the first since the Fighting Scots won the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational in 2019.

Next, Wooster competes at Heidelberg University's Fall Invitational. Action at Fostoria Country Club starts on Friday, September 17.
