Scots Tune-Up For Spring Slate Down South

Wooster Golf The College of Wooster women's golf team tuned up for its northern schedule with about a week and half trip to the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina area. During the trip, the Fighting Scots played seven different courses.

After getting dialed in at Old South Golf Links' driving range, Wooster teed off at the course, regarded as a favorite year-in and year-out by locals and visitors. The Clyde Johnston-designed course features plenty of towering oaks, rolling terrain, and magnificent views from the island greens.

Next, Wooster practiced at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Golden Bear Golf Club, a course recognized as one of "America's Top 100 Courses Priced Under $100" by Travel and Leisure. Strategy and finesse shots instead of sheer power were keys to the round on one of "Jack's courses."

On March 15, Wooster practiced at the Country Club of Hilton Head, a course featuring Old English architecture and sweeping fairways. Next, Wooster was at another of "Jack's courses," this time Indigo Run, the first signature course to be co-designed by a father and son team, and the last course built on Hilton Head.

Wooster's first post-St. Patrick's Day round took place at Bear Creek Golf Club, renowned designer Rees Jones' first solo-designed course. Bear Creek is home to many prestigious events, including Hilton Head Amateur and Hilton Head Open. Next, Wooster played Belfair Country Club's West Course, a traditional parkland-type course set in the frame of lowcountry and dotted with beautiful oaks and soaring pines. The course is part of Tom Fazio's portfolio.

Wooster returned for one final round at Hilton Head Island Country Club before capping the trip at Dolphin Head Golf Club. A Gary Player-designed course, it was his first one in the Hilton Head area. Player's main goal with the construction of Dolphin Head was to leave as many natural features as possible and to use very little landfill to help create a natural look to the course.

Wooster's spring season starts at University of Mount Union's Spring Invitational on March 26.
