Scots Win Third Straight Eva Shorb Invitational

The College of Wooster women's golf team won the Eva Shorb Wesikopf Invitational for the third straight year as the team hosted the event at the Wooster Country Club this weekend.

Wooster shot a 722 over the course of two days, shooting a 361 both days. They prevailed over the nine team field as the University of Mount Union (739) and Wittenberg University (745) rounded out the top three. 

The Scots trailed by three strokes after Saturday, and then ran away from the field on Sunday.

Marietta College's Lexi Bubenchik won individual honors with a 165, shooting a blistering 79 in the first round, which was the best round of the event.

The second-best round from the runner-up as Melissa Burtscher rose in the standings with a second round score of 82. She shot an 85 in the first round and finished at 167.

This was Burtscher's third top-five finish this year. On Sunday, she birdied hole 6 and found par on ten holes.

Ally Siewert joined Burtscher in the top five. Siewert finished fourth with a score of 175 with a consistent 87 and 88 round scores.

Senior Meghan Wright shot a 187 to squeak into the top ten at ninth. Classmate Kayla Audette tied for 16th at 193, and junior Riley Thorr rounded out the team scoring for the Scots with a 30th place finish at 201.

Playing individually, Maddie Moran shot a 214.

The Scots will look to continue its winning ways next week when they take part in the John Carroll Invitational.
