Scots Win Again, Match Program History

Meghan Wright, Wooster Golf HUDSON, Ohio – For the second time in program history, The College of Wooster women's golf team has won consecutive tournaments. Fueled by three-fifths of its lineup in the top-five, Wooster cruised to a 13-stroke victory at Sunday's John Carroll University Spring Shootout, which was held at the par-72, 5,600-yard Hudson Country Club.

Medalist honors resided with sophomore Melissa Burtscher for the second time this year. The Fighting Scots' number one tied her collegiate-best at 76. Burtscher played the front-nine at 1-over-par, thanks to back-to-back birdies on holes four and five. Two more circles went on the scorecard on the back-nine, with Burtscher draining birdies on holes 10 and 14.

Senior Meghan Wright logged a career-day, with her 82 marking a collegiate-best. Wright tied for third-place, the soon-to-be dental student's top collegiate finish in a traditional tournament. The biology major's steady round included nine pars, with five coming on the front-nine.

First-year Ally Siewert was next at 83, and that score ranked in the top-five. Siewert, who logged her fourth top-five collegiate finish, delivered a strong back-nine, playing that stretch at 3-over-par, thanks to eight pars, including six straight from holes 10-15.

Senior Kayla Audette's 91 rounded out the scorers and was the 13th-place score on the day. Audette logged five pars on Sunday. Junior Riley Thorr tied for 19th-place with a 98 and she also had three pars in the round.

Wooster came in at 332, with that ranking two strokes off the team's season-best of 330 from the second round of the Wooster Fall Invitational. Malone University was next at 345, while University of Mount Union's 356 was the third-place team total.

Wooster's other time winning consecutive tournaments came in the 2019 fall season. The Scots won the Westminster College (Pennsylvania) Invitational and followed that up by capturing the crown at the Eva Shorb Wesikopf Invitational, the same tournament the Scots won for the third straight time one week ago.

Next, Wooster is scheduled to play in Ohio Northern University's Invitational on Friday, April 15.
