Great Play Leads to 13th Tournament Title for Fighting Scots

Wooster Women's Golf Team ALLIANCE, Ohio – All four of The College of Wooster's counting scores were within the top-six at the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational, and that equated to the 13th tournament title in program history on Sunday afternoon at Tannenhauf Golf Club. Wooster's 317 – the third-lowest round in program history – was four strokes better than host Mount Union's 321.

Senior Melissa Burtscher, junior Ally Siewert, and senior Grace Lindgren all fired 79s to tie for third-place. All of Wooster's top three players had sub-40 scores on Tannenhauf's front nine, with Burtscher's 38 leading the way. Lindgren and Siewert both signed for 40s on the back nine. Of note, Burtscher now has 10 top-five finishes at traditional tournaments, while Siewert logged a ninth top-five showing, which is tied for the second-most in program history. The duo now have a combined 29 top-10 collegiate finishes at tournament with at least three teams.

First-year Morgan Erdmann had the low nine for holes 10-18, checking in at 38, which was the low split for the entire 68-competitor field. Erdmann's 80 earned a solo sixth-place finish. Classmate Abby Haywood's 87 rounded out the lineup and that score was tied for 19th-place.

Junior Maddie Moran and first-year Paige Nicely led Wooster's "B" team with 91s. Moran's 91 marked a new collegiate-best by three strokes. The duo tied for 29th-place.

Wooster's 317 trails the 307 logged at last year's Transylvania University Fall Invitational and the 315 from last year's Heidelberg University Fall Invitational. Wooster's tournament win gives the program a third straight year with at least one tournament title for the second time in program history. Wooster's other three-year stretch with at least one tournament title spanned the 2017-18 to 2019-20 seasons. Eleven of the 13 tournament titles have come over the last seven seasons.

Mount Union's Madison Gruber was the medalist at 76.

Continued issues with Spikemark's system prevented additional details about Wooster's rounds from being included in this recap.

Next, Wooster is taking part in the Westfield Collegiate Golf Classic, hosted by Westfield Country Club on the South Course September 18-19.
