Scots the Runner-Up at Mount Union Fall Invitational
Wooster places three in the top-10
ALLIANCE, Ohio – Three top-10 finishers, which included the first collegiate top-10 outing by sophomore Paige Nicely, propelled The College of Wooster women's golf team to a runner-up finish at the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational, which took place on Sunday at the par-72, 5,757-yard Tannenhauf Golf Club. Wooster's 328 ranked three strokes behind champion Mount Union.
Senior Ally Siewert was the tournament's runner-up with a 6-over-par 78. The Fighting Scots' lineup anchor pared six of the first seven holes and had a run of six pars over a seven-hole stretch on the back nine. Siewert played the 10 par-4 holes at 2-over-par for the day. The runner-up finish marked the 17th of Siewert's collegiate career, and she is two shy of taking over solo possession of the program's career record for most top-five finishes at traditional tournaments, which require a minimum of four competing teams.
Nicely shattered the collegiate-low by five strokes en route to the first top-10 showing. Nicely's 82 tied for the sixth-place score on Sunday. The sophomore had a run of six pars over an eight-hole stretch spanning holes seven through 12. Nicely played the final 12 holes at 3-over-par at Tannenhauf.
Sophomore Abigail Haywood rounded out the top-10 trio with an 83, which was tied for eighth-place. Haywood's top-10 finish was the fourth for the sophomore. Haywood sank one of two of Wooster's birdies on the day, with that coming at the par-3, 115-yard eighth hole. The sophomore played the four par-3 holes at Tannenhauf at even par.
Sophomore Morgan Erdmann shot an 85 and placed 13th. Erdmann's round concluded with a birdie on the par-4, 350-yard 18th hole. Erdmann was at even par through two holes and carded a par on three of the four par-5 holes at Tannenhauf.
Sophomore Lizzy Hohman's collegiate-best 86 rounded out the lineup. Hohman carded seven pars during the collegiate-best effort, three of which came on par-3 holes. That led to a 1-over-par finish over the quartet of par threes at Tannenhauf. She tied for 14th-place.
First-year Sarah Buchholtz debuted with a 108 while competing as an individual. Sophomore Serena Grenga signed for a 108, while junior Alexis Neal finished at 112.
Mount Union's Jocelyn Troyer was the medalist with a 4-over-par 76.
Next, Wooster competes at the Westminster College Fall Invitational, which takes place on Saturday, September 14 at Avalon Field Club at New Castle in Pennsylvania.
