Wooster Cards Season-Low Score in Win Over OWU
Scots the top-four finishers in dual match
ORRVILLE, Ohio – The top four finishers were all College of Wooster Fighting Scots, as the women's golf team easily downed Ohio Wesleyan University 326-375 in Saturday's dual at the par-71, 5,741-yard Riceland Golf Course. Wooster's 326 marked a season-low team score.
Senior Ally Siewert claimed medalist honors for the second time this week, giving her four career ones. That is tied with alumna Tongtong Wu for the most in program history. Siewert followed up her collegiate-best 73 from the Grove City College Fall Invitational with a 77 at Riceland. A strong closing stretch was Siewert's go-to once again, as she played the last five holes at 2-under-par. Birdies went down for Siewert on the par-5, 488-yard 15th hole and the par-4, 343-yard 17th hole. Siewert had three birdies for the round and played 10 holes at par or better.
Sophomore Morgan Erdmann matched a season-low with an 81, and in doing so, secured a top-two collegiate finish for the first time. Erdmann moved back to even-par through three holes by birdieing the par-4, 342-yard third hole. Erdmann's midround success carried the sophomore to the runner-up showing. She had six pars in an eight-hole stretch, spanning holes eight through 15.
Sophomores Abigail Haywood and Paige Nicely tied for third-place with 84s. Haywood matched a collegiate-best with the third-place showing, while Nicely became a top-three collegiate finisher for the first time. Haywood scored a par on all three par-5 holes, while Nicely was 1-over-par for the day on the par-5s. Nicely was two off a collegiate-best, getting close to it with pars on four of the final six holes.
Sophomore Lizzy Hohman's 94 rounded out the lineup. Hohman birdied the par-4, 290-yard 13th hole. The sophomore had Wooster's low score of the day on the par-3, 151-yard seventh hole and helped Wooster to a 1-under-par showing as a team on No. 3.
First-year Sarah Buchholtz led Wooster's three individuals with a collegiate-best 102.
Audrey Nichols was Ohio Wesleyan's leading scorer at 86.
The win was the first dual win for interim head coach Kaitlin Neumann.
