Erdmann Medalist at Mount Union Spring Invite
Sophomore fires season-best 77 to lead Fighting Scots to second-place finish
ALLIANCE, Ohio – College of Wooster sophomore Morgan Erdmann captured medalist honors at the University of Mount Union Spring Invitational with a 77 on Saturday. Wooster finished second of six teams at the weather-shortened tournament with a 336, seven strokes back of host Mount Union.
Erdmann's 77 was a season-best by four strokes and one off her collegiate low round. She played holes six through 18 at even-par, starting that stretch by rolling in back-to-back birdies on the par-4, 309-yard sixth hole and the par-4, 297-yard seventh hole. Erdmann's third birdie of the round went down on the par-5, 442-yard 16th hole. She played the back nine at 1-over-par and went par or better on nine of her final 10 holes. She was two clear of the runner-up trio of 79s.
Senior Ally Siewert had one of the 79s. She had a strong finish to the round, playing the last five holes at even-par. Siewert dropped in a birdie on the par-4, 395-yard 14th hole. Wooster's No. 1 played 10 holes at par or better and was just 1-over-par on par-3 holes for the day.
Sophomore Abigail Haywood tied for ninth-place with an 87. Haywood had a solid finish to the front nine, playing holes four through eight at 1-over-par. Haywood added four pars on the back nine, and the sophomore went even-par over the four par-3 holes at the par-72, 5,546-yard Tannenhauf Golf Club.
Senior Maddie Moran's 93 was the 17th-place score. Moran dropped in a birdie on the short 115-yard, par-3 15th hole. The senior ended the front nine with a par on the par-4, 338-yard ninth hole and had her second par of the day on the 132-yard 11th hole.
Senior Paige Nicely signed for a 95 and rounded out Wooster's lineup. She tied for 18th-place. Nicely's round was headlined by a par on the par-4, 287-yard second hole.
Junior Alexis Neal led a trio of individual entries for the Fighting Scots with a collegiate-best 97. Neal's round started with a par on the 453-yard, par-5 first hole, and a second par went down for the lefty on the 442-yard 16th hole.
Next, Wooster hosts its Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational April 6-7 at Wooster Country Club. Sunday's round starts with tee times at noon and Monday is slated for an 11 a.m. shotgun start.
