Scots Explode For 24 Goals in 14-Point Win Over Trine

Scoring goals wasn't a problem for The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team this weekend, as the Scots followed up an 18-point outing on Saturday with a 24-10 drubbing of Trine University on Sunday afternoon at Angola, Ind.

The Scots (7-2) came just two points shy of matching the program's all-time single game scoring mark of 26 points which they reached twice, most recently against OberlinOberlin College in 2008. Wooster combined to score 42 points over the weekend in its back-to-back wins, and is now averaging 15.5 goals per game.

After just 15 minutes of action, seven different Scots had already recorded goals while building a 9-3 cushion, and Wooster later went into the break with a 15-5 lead. The Scots were 7-for-10 on free-position shots in the first half, and Clare Nelson-Johnson and Nina Dine had both already chipped in hat tricks.

The Scots slowed the scoring pace down in the second stanza, but still added nine more scores, including hat tricks for Amy Denny, Becca Worthington, and Madison Carey, as well as Megan Piemonte's first career goal.

Nelson-Johnson paced Wooster with seven points (6 goals, 1 assist), and Carey was next with five points which all came on goals. Worthington scored three times and added an assist, and Denny and Dine each finished with three goals. Goalkeeper Shawna Ferris made six saves while recording her sixth-consecutive win.

Trine was powered by Kayla Grieser and Ashley Kocsis who both had four-goal outings in the setback.

Wooster will look to win its seventh-straight game this Wednesday when it hosts Albion College (1-2) at 4:30 p.m.
