Wooster Splits Pair During Season Opening Texas Road Trip

The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team got its season started in San Antonio, Texas this week, and will head back home with a 1-1 split in the standings, as the Fighting Scots triumphed 22-6 over the University of Dallas on Sunday, but came up short Tuesday in a 10-15 loss to Elizabethtown College.

The Scots (1-1) blitzed Dallas in the opening stanza by building a 10-1 advantage at the break, and then added 12 more goals in the second half to cruise to a 22-6 win. Both Nina Dine and Madison Carey scored five goals each, with the latter adding an assist, and Becca Worthington scored four times and recorded a helper. Jess Cleveland, Emily Meyer, and Amy Denny all had two-goal outings, while Katie Smart and Isabel Baylor added a goal apiece.

Worthington paced Wooster with four goals in the loss to Elizabethtown, and added another assist, bringing her season total to nine goals and two assists. Dine and Carey each poured in two goals, and Jess Cleveland and Clare Nelson-Johnson scored as well, with Nelson-Johnson's being her first career goal. The Scots trailed 6-8 at halftime, but were unable to catch up down the stretch.

Freshman goalkeepers Shawna Ferris and Sarah Blosser split playing time in goal right down the middle, as both spent a half protecting the net in each game. Ferris finished the trip with 11 total saves and Blosser added 7.

Wooster will be back in action March 20, when they host Fredonia State University (1-0) at John P. Papp Stadium at 1 p.m.
