Madison Carey paved the way for The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team's third-straight win, as the senior attacker scored a career-high seven goals during the Fighting Scots' 19-15 decision at Shorter University in Rome, Ga., on Tuesday.

Carey set the tone for her big game with a score 19 seconds into the action and Wooster (4-1) was up 3-0 less than 3:30 minutes in. Shorter (8-3) slowed the Scots early surge, as it was 6-2 with 10:00 to play in the first half, but an offensive flurry put the visitors ahead 12-5 at the break.

The Hawks made an early push during the second half, cutting the deficit to four at 13-9. Wooster responded with a 3-1 run, capped by Carey's sixth goal, and the margin never got any closer than four.

Carey's seven goals came on 11 shots and was just one shy of the team record for a single-game. She has scored five or more in three consecutive outings and already has 24 goals in just five games.

Also recording hat tricks were Clare Nelson-Johnson with four goals and Shelby Stone and Jaqueline Wallat with three apiece. Eliza Perry dished out four assists, while Nelson-Johnson was all over the field, adding game highs of seven groundballs and five draw controls.

The Scots complete their spring break trip with a tilt at Berry College (4-4) Thursday at 4 p.m.
