2012 Academic All-District Team

Shawna Ferris, a member of The College of Wooster's women's lacrosse team, was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for at-large sports, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced. It marks the second year in a row Ferris has garnered the honor, and as a first-team selection this time, she moves to the ballot for Academic All-American® consideration.

Ferris recently collected her third all-North Coast Athletic Conference award in as many seasons as the Fighting Scots' starting goalkeeper, landing second-team all-league status. This spring, Ferris improved her save percentage to .466, which puts her among the top-50 in the NCAA Div. III national statistics. Additionally, she tallied a 10.73 goals against average and 32 groundballs, while helping Wooster to 12 wins (12-5-1) and a third-place finish in the NCAC.

Off the field, Ferris has accumulated a near-perfect grade-point average (3.98) and majors in communication studies. She is the treasurer of the communications club and a writing center tutor on campus as well as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio), just 11 student-athletes were honored by CoSIDA from the at-large sports (crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo), and Wooster was one of just two schools with multiple selections (Baldwin-Wallace College was the other).
