Scots Score Last 10 Goals of 20-5 Victory Over DePauw

Clare Nelson-Johnson

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster dominated from start-to-finish, scoring the game's first four goals and the last 10 of a 20-5 win against DePauw University during North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action at a blustery cold Carl Dale Field on Saturday afternoon.

Wooster (10-2, 3-1 NCAC) had a 4-0 lead by the time just 5:07 had elapsed, which included the first of Clare Nelson-Johnson's career-high seven goals. DePauw (4-4, 1-4 NCAC), a first-year varsity program, did strike back for two in a row, only to see the Fighting Scots run off five unanswered for a 9-2 cushion, still with more than 12:00 remaining in the first half.

The Tigers would play their best over the next few minutes, accounting for three of the next four scores in making it a 10-5 game. Then, Wooster finished the stanza with a three-goal flurry for an eight-goal advantage.

With 13 goals, the Scots' offense headlined the opening half, but its defense was the story the second, shutting out DePauw the final 30 minutes. Defenders Sophia Hoover Grant, Julia Huldin, and Kari Martyniak limited the visitors to just five shots and Isabel Perman saved the lone one on goal, the goalkeeper's sixth of the contest, while offensively, Wooster tacked on seven scores to reach the 20-goal mark for the second time this season.

Nelson-Johnson's seven goals was one more than her previous best of six, recorded just six days ago, and she also tallied one assist for an eight-point outing. Netting two goals apiece were Ellie Hudson-Heck, Ashley Parry, and Eliza Perry, and Molly Sennett led the Scots in the assist department with four.

On Tuesday, Wooster hosts a key game with currently undefeated Denison University (10-0, 3-0 NCAC) coming to town for a 5 p.m. match-up.
