WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster's game with North Coast Athletic Conference rival Denison University started under daylight Tuesday at Carl Dale Memorial Field, then featured two weather delays, and eventually ended under the lights at John P. Papp Stadium, with Denison the eventual 9-6 victor.

With threatening skies overhead, Denison (12-0, 5-0 NCAC) got off to a quick start, scoring three times while keeping Wooster (10-3, 3-2 NCAC) off the board the first 10 minutes. Shortly after the third goal, rumbles of thunder were audible and the game was delayed for the first time.

When the teams returned to action 30-plus minutes later, the Big Red quickly netted another score to make it 4-0, but then the Fighting Scots seemed to find their footing and steadily gained momentum throughout the remainder of the half. That paid off in the form of an Ellie Hudson-Heck unassisted goal at the 4:41 mark, and the momentum continued to swing Wooster's way as Hudson-Heck found the net again, this time finishing a transition opportunity from Molly Sennett with 1:00 before the break.

It remained 4-2 through halftime, then the offenses picked up the pace at the start of the second, with Denison accounting for three of the first four goals to take a four-goal advantage (7-3) for the second time.

Sennett keyed another push to get the Scots back into the game, assisting a Cassie Greenbaum goal and then scoring herself by converting a free-position attempt, as they trimmed the deficit to 7-5 with 16:18 remaining.

A few minutes later, heavy lightning and thunder hit the area, and with nighttime setting in, the decision was made to turn on the lights at Papp Stadium and play out the final 12:21 there.

When play restarted, Wooster held possession for more than two minutes, but could not find an opening and eventually turned it over. The Big Red worked down the clock before converting a look with 6:45 left, then added another at the 4:10 mark, with their third four-goal lead effectively sealing the outcome.

Statistically, Hudson-Heck had a hat trick plus four groundballs for the Scots, while Sennett was their other multiple scorer with the one goal and two assists. Wooster also received a boost from the return of goalie Shawna Ferris, who tallied nine saves in her first game since March 22.

Denison was paced by Molly Chapman's three goals and one assist.

The Scots will be at Kenyon College (7-2, 3-1 NCAC) on Saturday afternoon.
