Wooster Cruises Past OWU 15-3

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored nine unanswered goals during a 12:46 stretch of the opening half, as the Fighting Scots cruised past Ohio Wesleyan University by a final count of 15-3 in a North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse match-up Wednesday on Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium.

Through 10 minutes, the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1, then Wooster (11-4, 4-3 NCAC) began its decisive stretch with a Shelby Stone goal at the 19:37 mark. Not much later, Molly Sennett and Clare Nelson-Johnson notched tallies just 32 seconds apart to extend the Fighting Scots lead to three.

The most impressive part of the run occurred when three different players – Stone, Eliza Perry, and Alison Schlothauer – scored goals during a :47 span, and Wooster continued to add to its advantage, eventually making it 10-1 at the halftime break.

Nelson-Johnson won the draw control to start the second half and took it herself down field for an unassisted goal just 11 seconds into the half for the double-digit margin. Later, she scored again for the 150th goal of her career, becoming the seventh in team history to achieve that milestone.

Eight different players in all scored for Wooster, which was especially effective on free positions as it converted on four such opportunities.

In addition to Nelson-Johnson's hat trick, Sennett and Stone also hit the back of the net three times, while Ashley Parry led the team with two assists and registered a goal.

On Saturday, the Scots host Oberlin College (4-10, 3-4 NCAC) in a game that could determine the No. 4 seed for next week's NCAC Tournament.
